Finally riding a big boys bike
I absolutely love these G&J rims on my 1901 Rambler. They are solid wood and seem quite rigid - a lot thicker than the normal tube tire rims.
Since there is no metal clad to withstand the sideways forces of thed clincher tire, it is a good thing they designed them that solid.
I guess the doubel-bead profile of the G&J was supposed to devide the forces acting upon the shoulder (?).
Too bad the Rubenas only have one bead
Anyways, I could mount the Rubenas without any modification - although I helped a little bit with a plastic tire mountig aid and (in some areas) silicon spray to press the bead snug into the rim profile before inflating the tube.
So overall a very nice experience.




In terms of the color missmatch:
I assume the rear rim is original (black with thin golden stripes, like catalog states) and the front one is a replacement - still G&J, same shape etc. - but there are no traces of black on the front rim.
So in case somebody wants to sell / trade ... please let me know ....
