For the SuperSport, my thought was to leave the top tube and forks alone ('cept the wax), but perhaps try to do a touch up job on the real nasty gashes on the chainstays...
Here's the thing... any touch up will look like a touch up. Usually that will not look any better than the chipped paint. And touch up will require more work. Get that Kool Lemon* beauty on the road and ride. If at some time in the future you really ike the way it rides and you are inspired to spiff it up, do a complete repaint. Have fun!

* great color!

Depends on what you want to do,if bike is 25 years old or more and needs paint so you can enter bike shows then paint it. Good original paint is worth a lot of points in a bike show, and a good disassembly and repaint takes time.
The yellow bike is a rider, a good detail person can touch it up if you want to spend the money. Good luck.

Hello, I have the same question but drastically different paint condition. The 1937/38 Schwinn I was given appears to have been repainted long ago. Any thoughts about repainting?
Thanks

Hhmm. What I see could be original paint. There are pinstripes on fenders, fork, and chain stay. And I don't see other colors where the green is worn off. Schwinn experts might be able to opine if the green paint is the real thing. BTW nice bike!

Thank you everyone. Consensus is clear to keep the paint. I figured as much, but just wanted to see how everyone's thought processes are. ( There are a decent number YT videos of people stripping these old frames and doing complete resprays...)

Now, as for the paint chips and letting them love. Just to make certain, your advise even for these more severe areas is to just clean, touch up any bare metal with oxalic acid, the polish and wax? Is something like Turtle wax enough to keep rust at bay? I do plan to ride the bikes but will winter, road salt and super rainy days. How often do you all re-wax in cases like this?

Have any of you done touch ups for cases like these with color matched paint on something like this that came out well?

Their are some really good automotive touch up paint for the really bad spots or have some one who runs a body shop for some suggestions on touch up paint. Good luck and welcome to the CABE. Mark.
