Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
For sale is this unique 23 inch frame Ace/Schwinn New World diamond frame project from 1940. This bike was partially parted out by a previous owner and came with some later parts on it. Frame, fork, fenders, and chain guard have cleaned up and touched-up paint. A cosmetic ding in the top tube was repaired with epoxy, sanding, and matching paint (see photos). The bike came to me with a 1940s-50s wheelset that was pretty much toast. I'll let the next owner source wheels (I'm out of pre-war lightweight wheelsets). One of the fender braces has broken, but can be fixed by someone with the right skills. Bottom bracket has a good Schwinn spindle and has been cleaned and re-greased. Cottered "AS&CO" cranks with cotter pins. Plating on the handlebars is kind of rough but the bars are usable. Comes with a rough stem that might not be correct and a better Wald knuckle stem. Fork was sent out and straightened professionally by a shop in Vermont. Still has a lot of the original green paint and some of the gold pinstripes. Comes with old Schwinn oval grips that have cracked. Nice, large Ace badge and Ace downtube graphic. Comes with a basic Troxel saddle. This one is for the advanced builder who wants to piece it back together and have something really unique. Pre-war tall frames are unusual and especially so with the Ace badge and graphic.
