I'm told that some came from the factory with the Bendix two-speed, I've never seen the chain guard decal that states that but in theory, a two speed, heavy duty King Size likely existed. If you are going to build up a KS, consider doing that.

They were offered with the 2 speed so there should be a few out there. Model A19 at $69.95.

Would that be a manual shift or an automatic, to be correct? I have seen a price page showing this option but its unclear which hub.

I've purchased a KS with a two speed wheel, (in San Jose, from a collector, for my collector friend in Sacramento) sadly the bike was in poor condition and a repaint so it was impossible to determine if it were sold that way or if a marriage had taken place post production. The "smoking gun" I seek is an original chain guard that states "two speed" and "King Size" in the cross like my red bike says Heavy Duty and King Size.

That is an excellent and valid question. When was the last year that the manual shift was used by Schwinn and when was the first year of the red banded automatic? Schwinnsales West? I'll bet you know this one.

No such thing with a two speed written on the chain guard

logically, since the catalog page has no verbiage about the "new" "automatic" hub, I'll assume the manual two speed was used. Now I REALLY want one.
