Another question for the Schwinn SMEs. How to differentiate a repop S2 tubular rim from an original S2 tubular rim.

Note: I do not have photos or pictures. Its just a question.

I don't have pictures handy but here is the breakdown:
The reproductions from 1995, the Schwinn S2 stamp is cartoonish...really big compared to the original and was double knurled.
The S2's made in Hungary have a single knurling down the center of the rim and are stamped Schwinn S2
The originals are center stamped Schwinn S2 with knurling on both sides of the stamp (double knurling) with one exception and that is early 1948 in which the rim had no knurling but still center stamped Schwinn S2.

There are at least two reproduction S2 rims which have two rows of knurling. The differences are subtle and it will help you to visually and physically study all of the offerings. In the meantime, without visual context it is impossible for us to teach you the difference, one from the other. Allow me to suggest a tried and true approach: submit actual pictures of the items in question to the forum. There are people here who are extremely knowledgeable in a wide variety of intricate and subtle idiosyncrasies associated with just about every bike that was ever manufactured, not just Schwinn and not just the Schwinn Phantom.

Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.

USA Single Knurl huh, would like to know more about that, if its 26”. I know some of the early 70s Sting Rays came with a single knurl S2.

Here’s more examples. The more common ones you’ll see.
