Look Ma, No Hands!
I would like to replace the rivets on this Schwinn seat for my Cycle Truck, but don't know what this particular rivet is called. I have a hanson rivet squeezer and I think these are a type of tubular rivet, but not sure how the star pattern is achieved. Anyone know the proper name of these or where to find them? Example is at top of picture. Thanks, Mike

The tubular rivet is split and rolled by the special stamping die.

If you have an anvil or hard surface to set the seat on you can do it with one of these Tandy dies.

I've not seen any of these produced today, but in fairness, that "today" was about 6 years ago when I was steadily searching for fasteners.

Star shaped split rivet is what I've called them.
As uniform as the tail is, I'd say starting them by hand and then setting with a one size larger tubular rivet die would probably do the job.

Just did another search via Google and this is the closest thing I could find, exploding head rivets. Unfortunately they're Blind rivets that will show an exposed mandrel...just like a pop rivet.

@rustjunkie what is Hanson calling this die you're talking about? I would think it would have to have 6 cutting flutes??

Being an old fart carpenter I used to fix, make and customize my leather nail bags, tool holders etc. and I had a stamping die from Yellow Front that would star the tubular rivets. Just a small 1/4" diameter shank about 1.5 inches long with a head and you just hit it with a hammer having the rivet head on a hard surface. In my case it was concrete or the flat on my vice.

Ahh, he had posted while I was still typing I suppose. That's kind of what I imagined in terms of shape.
Is this a new one @GTs58 ? Source for it? Something I'll definitely pick up.

Tandy has one and there is also another that's the same on Amazon. I posted about these here years ago when @Pantmaker was looking for one so he could reassembly his seat covers. I just saw where some outfits call it a splashing, but in I've always called it starring.
