First of all, I saw the bike for the first time yesterday when I purchased it. And I do not consider the prior post tried to be a knock on this bike.
So what is the deal with this fabricated stingray? I don’t remember the 1963 stingray ever been offered in red. I would go to the Schwinn dealer at least once a week during the summer of 63 and never remember seeing a red stingray. Only Coppertone, sky, blue, and lime. Pats Schwinn always had one of each color on the floor, but he never had a red one.
Of course one could tell from the prior owner's listing of the bike it was not an original Stingray, Heck, a 1963 frame, 1965 forks, old ghost of the Typhoon lettering on guard which I did not see but prior lister of bike stated it had as well as many photos, (I do have to say though my eyes are not to good, had 3 pair of new prescription glasses come in the mail today that I have not opened yet which may help me see that Typhoon ghost lettering). So what are the chances this started life as a 1963 stingray, probably very slim I would say, but they did have 1963 red Stingrays, this frame could, and I say could have started it's life on a brand new 1963 Stingray, who knows. I think there were a few Terra Cottas until April or May, then the red ones which I think were called flamboyant red.. I have had a few red 1963 Stingrays in my time, even another real nice red H3 bike years ago. Even the insert advertising the new for 1963 Stingrays that were given to the dealer's to insert into the 1963 catalogs show a red Stingray on them since the 1963 Stingray came out after the Catalog was printed. They did make red 1963 Stingrays. Now this bike I now own I would never be trying this Saturday to sell it for anywhere close to what it would be worth if it had mid year or so 63 dated forks, an original paint and screen guard, center stamp rear wheel......., and I am sure John would not have sold it for near the price he sold it to me for.
Nothing misleading here at all in my opinion. Heck, I wish most seller's were that thorough in describing a bike as John was in doing when he had it for sale on here. One of the definitions for fabricate in the Webster dictionary is "make up for the purpose of deception" such as accused of fabricating evidence. So in my opinion the word fabrication is a bit harsh when describing the faults of an item such as this bike and no deception is obviously intended. I know it gets tricky though. They also made black 20" Typhoons, and when you start talking about black Stingrays it can really get complicated. All good here.

When the description and pictures are altered from an original post it always seems sketchy. The original post by all means gave the impression that this was in fact a real SR at no point did it claim to be anything else. Any questions I directed at the seller were ignored raising another red flag for me. The seller did a poor job of communicating and answering questions about a bike they originally asked over $1500, if the seller joined to sell their bikes and did not want to have to answer questions about them they have come to the wrong place. Regardless it is a beautiful bike enjoy it.

100% worth the money paid. He also stated it was going to a swap and would sell & yup it did 👍
