Thanks for all of your replies and input! After careful inspection of the bottom side of the BB(bottom bracket?) I can see that the fuse marks(?) are mimicked, only for show. So these classic series reproductions were made in Chicago? Does the serial number provide a means to any reliable information about this bike? Where can it be found? Thanks again for all of the participation!

No, not Chicago built.....China or Taiwan.....

FYI, The Schwinn family owned company shut down the Chicago factory in 1983. A phase out that took most of the year. Some of the EF equipment was sent to Murray bikes near Nashville Tennessee to make Schwinn bikes for another year or two tops. I have a 1984 Murray built EF Schwinn but the bb construction is completely different from any other bike I've ever seen. It makes me guess not all of the EF equipment made the trip or was functioning after the move. Schwinn went bankrupt and sold off in 1992. The Schwinn name has changed owners several times with each reissuing models of Schwinns and reusing model names on different bikes.

I remember talking to a old time Schwinn dealer when these reissues came out and he told me about all the efforts to simulate the ef look including the visible bb seam. Ditto for the 26" bikes.

My guess is that "G' serial is for Giant bicycles Taiwan. Worlds largest manufacture of bicycles and they have manufactured bikes for Schwinn and just about everybody else the last 30 or 40 years.
