I think most bike thefts are by junkies as they're easy to steal and turn over for a quick buck, the consequences are small (even when the bike is worth more than a car that has much greater consequences to the thief with greater chance of being caught), and police couldn't care less. People with jobs generally don't care about bikes or can afford to buy what they want. IMO, if they banned Narcan, the problem might just sort much of itself out in a short time, but maybe I've known too many junkies to feel the sympathy I'm "supposed to" feel for them and that's a heartless suggestion.

I make sure to write down all serial numbers and take some pictures of my bikes if proof of ownership is needed in the case of seeing a stolen one show up on CL or something.

sccruiser had his orange krate stolen from his garage by a tweaker. The bike was obviously to hard to turn and burn because of its uniqueness. So it sat somewhere hidden till info was leaked and he got it back. There is hope! Beautiful bike, hope he gets it back!!!!!

dont give up hope !! Post on local Craigslist as stolen or any local Facebook Virtual Garage Sale type websites. Also I have talked with some of the local lets say "sidewalk sophisticates" with multiple bikes and told them there may be a reward if any of your buddies spout off about having a old bike matching your description. Mind you , specify " a reward for you ... not the guy with the bike"
the boys will start doing the research... believe me. once its known by a few guys as stolen, they will start giving each other up for a couple of bucks. My bike had a rebuilt speedometer with 33 miles on it. when I revovered it 6 mos later.... 33 miles. Never saw the light of day.
sidenote.
after checking on local Facebook stolen bikes site daily for any leads on my bike, I saw a guy riding a bmx cruiser that had been listed as stolen 2 days earlier. I saw guy park it and I basically just walked up said it was stolen. either give it to me or I will call the cops. He just handed it over.
3 days later I got a lead on my own bike that lead to recovery.

Sorry about the break-in and theft. I hope it turns up un damaged, it sure is a beauty! I will now make an effort to get all of my serial numbers documented. I installed security cameras back in December the "ring" type, I love the quality of the video, easy install and can say I do have piece of mind...

As 49autocycledeluxe stated the OCC chopper has already been trade, sold or whatever. In regard to the Streamliner. That bike is so unique and different, its like a dead weight to the theft..it could be left abandoned somewhere.
This is my opinion only , do what you want with it. This might not work at all.
Make about 100 flyers , post them everywhere from the nice areas of town to the worst. obviously with a picture of the bike, and something like the following. STOLEN / (WHATEVER AMOUNT YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY) CASH REWARD FOR ITS RETURN / NO QUESTIONS ASKED / CONTACT INFO. The phrases Cash reward and No Questions asked will definitely spark a lot of interest, from the junkies to nice people. ( When I say nice, Im not saying junkies cant be nice people, I am referring to nice people as Leave it to Beaver type nice)
If all goes well, you will get contacted. You and a friend( back- up, maybe in view or not ) meet the person(s) in a public place. This is where you decide what type of person(s) you are dealing with ( shady or not). If shady have your friend try to take a picture of the suspect(s) without being noticed. {This is for future reference in case they are seen around }.
Remember, no questions. Once the transaction has taken place, you go your way he /she / they goes theirs.
In case of shady person(s), another group of your friends follow that suspect(s) to see what hole they came from or possibly be taken directly to their dealer.
If he / she wants to play leave the ransom game..leave the money at X and the bike will be there. That's find too. same plan a little different strategy.
I know there is a lot of thoughts among the CABE, what the friends following the suspect(s) should do.... Your friends are sensible grown adults they'll figure it out what the right thing to do is. Just to add...junkies very rarely go and file a report to the police

Pictures and serial numbers of your bikes , outside lighting security cameras or a mean ass dog are all a good plan to protect your stuff. A hidden GPS system hidden in the bike seat post or elsewhere isn't a bad idea either.

Here's a flyer for the stolen bicycle.
