Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Here is a beautiful teens DeLuxe-badged Michigan City Excelsior motobike in great riding condition. This sweet 20" frame Excelsior features a repaint in beige with maroon darts and navy pinstripes on frame, fork, and fenders. The Deluxe badge is present but likely from later in the 20s. Much of the original nickel remains on the stem, chainring, cranks, and seat post, with the pedals, bars, and hubs showing a little more patina. The pedals are late teens/20s Persons Majestic 316 pedals with standard blocks. The saddle is a comfortable and attractive Troxel motorbike saddle. The bars, at 19" on center wide, feature nice original ball-end grips. The chain is a nice, free-moving Union 1" pitch roller chain with a screw master. The Lobdel steel-clad wood rims are attractive and true. The rear wheel sports a New Departure Model A hub and brakes fairly well. The front wheel features an hourglass hub. The tires, made of closed-cell urethane foam, were manufactured by my father in the 90s as a replacement for difficult-to-source single-tube pneumatic tires. They are lightweight, rideable, and will never go flat. The rear rack is nice and straight. The drop stand and clip are present and accounted for.
