I started on a handlebar change on a roadbike today at the shop.

carbon aero bar with special matching stem ($650USD)… came with two pages of special instructions and warnings.

internal routing for hydraulics and gears… fives hours allotted for the job.

and just how is all this crap a good thing?
An update… almost six hours to install these darn bars and internally “re-hose” the bike. And reset the derailleurs and bleed the brakes down and tape the bars…

so, all in all a 1200 dollar job including the cost of the bars and stem and stuff on a bike worth less than a grand.

yup, not silly at all.

think I’ll go out to the garage and give my old Centurion a hug.

I started staging parts a couple weeks ago for a complete build up of something that resembles what my buddies and I would have been riding circa 1980. Some relatively modern bits from the 90’s will be used to complete the look I want. The front end is complete and I threw on a pair of mountain bike take offs just to show where I’m headed. The frame was acquired only recently courtesy of @badbob and the first thing I did was go through the badge collection to find something with vibrant colors that would accent the parts I intended to use. Like it or hate it, I got thick skin. Just wanted to change it up a bit. Cheers Cabers!

It’s a labor of love right? Looks amazing🤩

Really cold here, so much so rather stay indoors, which is unusual for me. Just finished a build so looking to start another one. Decided it was time to strip down and paint this repainted ‘40 DX that I bought for parts, but it rode so well I’ve kept it a rider.

I started stripping it down yesterday with thought it’d keep me busy indoors next couple days till it warms up.

After working yesterday and several hours this morning I already have the paint stripped off except head tube and the fork crown. I think I’m working too fast cuz I’ll be looking for something else to work on soon. ( since I don’t have heated garage and it’s too cold to paint. I have a couple OG DX’s already but really want a green/green one so I’m attempting to paint this one to get what I want with what I have. This bike is the look I’m trying to achieve

I recently won this 1941 Schwinn B507 Auto-Cycle at a local auction.

The bike came from the attic of a farmhouse by way of a past Dentists estate sale only 10 miles away. The bike was equipped with the Springer fork, CycleLock and Fore-Wheel Brake.

The AN key was snapped off flush in the tumbler and one side of the fork was badly bent.

Cabe member @Krakatoa and @WES PINCHOT are going to work their magic to get things straightened out.
I cleaned up the frame today and will start on the original Lobdell rims and K1 dated Morrow hub next. I will likely replace the Torrington Dixon Jr handlebars. Learning a lot about vintage bikes this year and really enjoying the diversion from my auto restorations. We have a great community here with lots of helpful kind and generous members !

After last weeks Sunday ride I found I had to work on my tall frame. Front wheel was out of round so it was trued. Rear rim was wonky and has broken spokes so a loaner wheel was installed as a placeholder until I can find my used spokes to fix it. And the original handlebar were cracked, possibly freeze cracking but not sure, so they had to be swapped out for safety. All I had laying around were rechromed. Little shiny, but they work. And the seat mount was beat up and not holding tightly anymore. Swapped in a different seat and she is ready for more miles!
