Hmm... interesting take on it. I don't look forward to packing/shipping a bike or a 4.5 hour round trip either, but I just really like the looks of these SD's.

the biggest issue is the springers are crap. the later ones went to a springer more like the Schwinn, or the one on your Huffy.
don't undersell the 50s Huffy, they are still a well made bike. it wasn't until the later 50s that Huffy terminally cheapened their bikes to the point of being garbage.

I vowed never to ride a Huffy again... and then I found that bike and loved it. I always associated Huffy with junk, didn't realize until I started getting involved with antique bikes how long they've been around. It's actually a really comfortable bike to ride. Feels a lot more spacious than my others, just need to replace the nipples on the back wheel and get it trued up, it's pretty wonky at the moment.
 
Yeah. it will be my first trueing job, but I'm pretty sure I can handle it.
