NO, because the CC was no longer in production. And as I pointed out in my previous post, they were already coming out with the Spitfire by then!

That's pure speculation. You're guessing by using a customer brochure that you have no idea of when it was compiled, published and distributed.

Everything surrounding the "California Cruiser" is pure speculation since there is no documented proof to substantiate anyones theory's or opinions! But hey, this message thread is supposed to be about when the HD changed the style of the chainguard used. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Let's keep it on topic. Any further mentions of the California Cruiser in this thread will be deleted.

I was born in October of 1976 so aside from the copyright infringement fiasco of 1976 cruiser names I've had an interest in finding bikes made when I was because no matter how hard I try I'm always more self centered than I thought I was.

I have a Heavy Duty made in October of 1976. It has the newer chain guard and a build date of March 28th 1977. I also have a Spitfire made in October of 1976 with the new chain guard and a build date of July 28th 1977.

It's crazy how late that one was built after it was made... 9 months lag time.

All the 1977 Schwinn Heavy Duti bicycles that I have seen came with the "New" style chain guard ...
And then there is that Schwinn disclaimer ... NOTE: Prices and Specifications subject to change without notice.

I just finished taking a long ride around the neighborhood and came across a few 26" 1977 Typhoons and Hollywoods. It sure seems that the 1977 brochure pictures are pretty much worthless since all those examples had the new chainguards along with the 1977 Heavy-Duti. Just another small detail of reality.

The Heavy Duti, Typhoon, Spitfire, and the other bike I can no longer mention were all built on the same middleweight frame during this same point in time. Why there was a such gap in the build dates is still a mystery, and another topic full of speculatory theories and opinions!

WOW, you must live in a great neighborhood if you can just take one ride and see all those bikes built in 1977 in one small geographic area! 🤣

With few exceptions the big auto makers would bring out the new models end of Sept, Oct1. You could count on it, hey lets go see whats on the sales floor.

I think its been determined many times over the SN stamp date has nothing to do with the frame build date, just the date it was stamped.

I know I've said it before but just like big auto, there had to be a week where Schwinn said "this starts the new year!"
Whether it was parts, logistics, taxes or to catch Christmas sales with a "new model".
Someone had to be on the ball with flyers/ads and parts to match the new model.
