I’m doing old hubs with new hoops for my Iver. I’m using 32 hole Velocity Blunt SL rims since I’ve as able to find a 32h Iver stamped hub and a 32h morrow rear.

I’ve done quite a few velocity blunt 35 builds using old hubs and they ride great. I did have some new Italian wood 700c clinchers that were cool, but I was worried about longevity and I didn’t want to deal with drying out or warping or potential breakage.

Also, 700c is pretty much identical in diameter to a standard 28” wood rim. Of course the English equivalent 28” rim is larger in diameter.

There’s a thread on this subject somewhere in the pre ‘33 forum.

I’ve done this many times. If you go wood rims be wary of the ERD that CB Italia gives you. It’s not correct. Measure yourself. I’ve used their rims for 4 wheels. Otherwise their fine.

I'm at the spoke calculating stage. I'm using JE racing J36u rims on vintage hubs. After plugging in all the numbers, I came up with spoke lengths of 300mm rear and 301mm for the front. The wheelsets original spokes were the same length, so I'm thinking they are 300mm front and rear. I thought I read somewhere that round off lower? The big question, would you add Sapim washers with these rims for extra eyelet strength, and if so, how much to add to the spoke length?

Recalculate with a different spoke length calculator. It might give you slightly different results. This might help to see if you really need a different spoke length when using washers. With wood rims I always go shorter on spokes as the nipples get somewhat embedded and need frequent tensioning, even the ones with carbon inserts. What does Blunt recommend? I’ve used their rims once before and their good rims. For a seldom ridden bicycle washers might be overkill. I’d get ahold of Blunt.

Not using the blunt, using j36u from SE racing, mistakenly said JE racing.

Here is mine. 1918 Rollfast, SE racing rims, 1920's vintage front hub, shimano 3-speed coaster brake rear hub with ichi bike skip-tooth sprocket and schwalbe tires. The tires have built in reflector strips. I'm cool with that because I do not like getting hit by cars.

I've seen this bike and really like it. I'm thinking of the little big Ben's as well. I have black spokes and nipples ordered. Dt swiss comp double butted. Ordered from 365 cycles off ebay in boxes of 20. When you add boxes of 20 they automatically discount the price. Also , if I f'd up my spoke length calculation I will be able to return the unopened boxes.
