'Lil Knee Scuffer
This post is an update regarding a fixed gear track bike I posted a few weeks/months ago.
The pictures that follow show the results of the initial cleaning and rust removal. I have tried to get some of the finer details of the bike including the silver welds in the rear triangle, maker marks on the rims, hubs, and on the adjustable stem.
I have also tried to capture the details of the fork crown, lugs, and headset.
I have also posted on CABE.
Additional research leads me to believe the frame was built by Richard (Dick) Powers.
He hand built bikes in his shop in Sunnyside Queens NY. Apparently he used silver to weld his lugs because it allowed the tubes to maintain straight line rigidity.
Tommy Smeriglio rode a Powers Pista to several championships in the 1940’s.
The bike I own is almost the exact same bike ridden by Tommy.
I believe based on components and style this bike was built between WW I and WW II.
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
Any suggestions regarding restoration, rust removal, and repainting are also appreciated.
Thank you all.
