Since COVID disrupted the supply for tires, I've only been buying tires from a couple stores that I trust. I usually get mine through the BikeSmiths or Wheel and Sprocket in the USA, or Wiggle in the UK. They seem to account for their tires pretty well and keep up with what they have in stock.
There seems to have been a problem since COVID with stores saying they have X number of tires in stock, but then they don't actually have it (or account wrongly) and then refund a bunch of people. It was like that with white wall Kendas for Schwinn 3 speeds early after COVID hit.
There was a mentality among some shops (I think it's still there to some degree) that you can play fast and loose with stocking information and then "blame it all on supply chain" or "blame COVID" if something goes wrong and you have to refund.
