Coker bicycle tires have to be the all time worst....bar none. I can remember back years ago when Memory lanes had
a huge mountain of the SilverTown WW's. 1 dollar each. Should just call them Choker...or Joker...
they sold....but welp....yep guess how bad they were.
Wonder if their auto tires suck as hard?

Bob, they have the same reputation with the Hot Rod guys. Just log on to The HAMB and enter Coker Tires. The Hamb is the Hot Rod version of The CABE.

It's sad because the hobby needs to have decent quality reproduction parts at affordable prices. We need "rider quality" parts.

The Coker representative “Rusty” for the Shelby American Club, Boss 302/429 and 428 Cobra Jet cars forums does a big biz annually but most people installing Polyglas tires are in the concours classes and rarely put any miles on their cars. Coker is our only source for vintage Goodyear and Firestone but the only complaint I have ever heard is constant price increases. People do run them hard in the pure stock drags though with very low pressure. I dont know anything about their pre 60’s auto offerings but Ford, Mopar and GM muscle offerings are quality. May be an offshore sourced bicycle issue here.

At the price, I would have to assume they were offshore supplied tires. The small-run U.S.-made tires like John's chain treads or Robert Dean single tubes are usually a lot more expensive and you deal directly with the maker.
Boulder Schwinn's repro Typhoons and Westwinds were produced offshore but they were quality tires. Never had any issues with dry rot or premature yellowing of the WW's

I had the red Croker SilverTowns, they turned powdery, kinda like riding on sand when you went around a corner!
The WW Typhoons I had on my '53 Black Phantom began separating at the sidewall/tread area. The rear tire developed bad dry rot in the tread, causing the tube to blow through.

Yes, there are some good foreign makers like Gran Bois, Schwalbe, or Panaracer. The Michelins are fairly good. Kendas are usually OK, but more an economy tire. I tend to avoid the Duro and Cheng Shin tires.

For 26 x 2.125, I like John's chain treads.

Suppliers like some of the larger bike shops or the importer labels sometimes have a foreign mass manufacturer make the tires but with the shop or importer's own brand on it. Sunlite was using a mixture of Cheng Shin and Kenda tires. I've seen re-branded Duros as well.

The importer or shop really needs someone who knows bike tires to select the foreign manufacturer. It's not just about how the tire looks or rides off-the-shelf. They need to have some experience or idea of how the tire is going to be performing 12, 24, or even 36 months later.
