What site are you using that says that?

But the numbers people really need to be looking for and dissecting are Montgomery Ward HAWTHORNE numbers... which were not necessarily the same as Snyder numbers. Nor were D.P. Harris numbers exactly and always translatable to Snyder numbers.

As the saying goes..."One of these things is not like the others..."

I believe it’s H160067
Looks like a 1939–H Snyder Excelsior Hawthorne.
  • built by H.P. Snyder Mfg. Co.
  • at their more-westerly Excelsior Mfg. Co. factory, in Michigan City, Indiana; (with the same serial numbering system as other Snyder-Excelsior bikes of that era);
  • for the Montgomery Ward Hawthorne line of bicycles.
Like the original poster admitted; it’s not a CWC Hawthorne; (so none of the CWC serial numbers have any relevance).

It’s definitely in that date range, 1936-1939. So I’d go with the 1938, You should reach out to the person you bought it from and ask how they dated it at 1938. I apologize, but when I dated mine it was going through multiple entries in the archives. This site is a treasure trove of information, but you have to do the leg work on bikes that don’t have a serial number database. But you will date it, it just takes work. The wheels, are those painted silver? The question about the pedals and this one is me,doing my homework regarding getting the right parts for mine. What is the rear coaster brake, New Departure?
