I went there as a kid and still go at least 3 times each year. they close the month of Feb. The displays change at Christmas time. Great Christmas display. It used to be a farm, but now is built up with industrial buildings all around it. I remember when it was all farmland, as far as you could see. The Hastert family owns it. Aunt and uncle to Speaker of The House, Denny Hastert. It was converted from a working farm to a restaurant in 1952.
This place is the" real deal". Not fake like Famous Dave's, Cracker Barrel and the rest of the plastic wanna be old looking places. If you go there, Order the "Family Style Chicken Dinner." You will get a large platter of fried chicken, served with: homemade fritters [ TO DIE FOR ]Beats [yes, beets] large curd cottage cheese, vinegar coleslaw, kidney bean salad, choice of baked potato, fries or mashed [ with their famous green gravy.
This place is old, everything in it has been there a long time. Folks still donate stuff for display, and it's family owned.
The pictures displayed, do not do it justice, as there are many room, with stuff jammed everywhere.
Here is me and the "Boss", taken there a couple years back
