Fenders will stay for the moment, but when I get to detailing it and putting a set of knobbies on, I've got a feeling they may rub in the back. So we'll see when I get to that point. I'll look for part numbers on the fender too. I think they started stamping those around 74/5.

What are your all's thoughts on the first set of tourist bars, considering the previous owner says he didn't add them...? #8, Wald P/N 7836 reads "longhorn design for Spitfire models." P/N not stamped on the bars though...

As you posted the 1979 Schwinn Parts & Accessories Catalog ... the Title specifies Middleweight Fenders as they did not properly fit and this is most likely why most Schwinn dealers installed Wald Balloon Fenders that didn't fit correctly either, until Schwinn had correct Balloon Fenders available after 10-20-1980 "News Flash".

The Schwinn Parts & Acc. Catalog has the Balloon Fenders and Braces listed ...

1982 Parts & Accessories Catalog ...
26" Balloon Fenders... Front ... 52 015 (5001F) ... Rear ... 52 415 (5201F) ... Chrome plated.
26" Balloon Braces ... Front ... 52 851 (5516) ... Rear ... 52 876 (5524) ... Cadmium plated.

Yes, these on the 77 I just picked up are Middleweight fenders as they don't have dimples for the frame. Their wrap sits deeper on the tire as well. I'm not a fan of the shallow Wald made Balloon fenders offered later in this 79 catalog either, their chrome was more of a blue Cad tone. Even still, the later "corrected" fenders pictured on your black bike look too shallow for the appropriate length Schwinn Balloon braces, noted by the wide gap between the fender edge and the brace shoulder. But that's just my opinion. I think that's why others don't like fenders on their cruisers either. 50s Balloon fenders were just made better and made to look better, they spoiled us for anything different.

I know the chain guard says Schwinn Cruiser 5 but it's a Coaster !!

Maybe a gutted? Cruiser 5 since it has the yellow schwinn wet rims sticker

Yep, after closer inspection the frame, head badge, cranks, sprocket, chain guard are OG from a 5 speed Schwinn Cruiser ... the fork is a replacement, painted and decaled, also it doesn't have the larger axle diameter at the wheel mount. Frame has cable wear on both sides. Schwinn S-2 coaster brake wheel set is very clean.
