Have you seen or considered the cantilever brake pad stud configuration? It's at least cheaper than the cast aluminum adapters.

I just tried one in my C Model fender hole and the stud is too big, would need to be drilled up a mm or so. It does work in this post war frame though.

I've always liked the idea of having a Pitbull caliper or roller cam style center pull brake mounted below, but haven't built one up yet. I like my drums so I don't have to worry about wearing finish off the rims.
I have a kit for adding that type of brake above the lower fender bridge. It consists of two machined steel pivot posts with a larger diameter fish mouthed base. I do intend to weld these in position on the chain stays of another frame. It will require a hole through the base of the seat tube for the cable to pass. Haven’t determined which vintage frame I’m willing to bastardize yet.🤔 I’m thinking a 55 Schwinn straight bar middleweight since it has no factory welded kickstand cluttering up the area behind the bottom bracket. I have one but it still has decent original paint so IDK.

That's exactly what that frame is in the picture with the empty eyelet.

They have reproduced some 990 brake plate adapters that look pretty good and you can still find Hombre 990s that are anodized for that 80's look too...and would be something less permanent.

I'd better stop myself before I start rambling about parts for Pots Mods...else I'll be down another rabbit hole. ha!

@WillWork4Parts I bought a set of these 990 U brakes years back when I was originally going to convert one of my frames. I’ll have to find where I stashed everything. You got me motivated now to go through with it. 😂

I just realized that's not an Hombre brake, but it came up when I searched for that on eBay. Both of those parts are reproduced by Porkchop BMX and are about $10 cheaper on their website...then add bundled shipping.

I found the kit and now remember why the project stalled out. I just need to machine a pair of replacement bases out of steel to replace these aluminum ones.

Some round stock, a couple of holes drilled, threads tapped, and maybe some heavy contouring with a file(depending on the stay shape)...that doesn't look like too terrible of a project.
