Here's the beginning of another crazy project. What you see here are 7 cantilever frames gradating in size. In the end they will all be exactly the same except for their size. From top to bottom:

1). 16" Midget frame that will get 18" wheels.
2). 20" Junior frame that will get 20" wheels.
3). 20" Standard frame that will get 22" wheels.
4). 20" Modified frame that will get 24" wheels.
5). 24" Standard frame that will get 26" wheels.
6). 26" Standard frame that will get 29" wheels.
7). 26" Modified frame that will get 32" wheels.

Wish me luck

Awesome I can't wait to see the progress!

Here's one I whipped out in the last two days....

I didn't look to anything tangible for inspiration. I was largely inspired by traffic because I swore to never paint a yellow bike again and powder coat only after the last yellow paint S4!t Show, but my lack of enthusiasm getting to the powder coater had me at Home Depot looking at rattle cans and taking that route. I did take some inspiration from the existing pin lines on the fender and what I could remember of shark faces being painted on military boats and planes. I think I first did this when I was 6.

My neighbor Chris is a movie producer and is working on a film about 3 adolescents in the late 1950s. Much of the movie will be them riding from place to place on bicycles.

Initially he came to me to ask about 50s bikes and where he could get ahold of some. I happened to have a couple in my collection as well as two 24” Schwinns I had initially picked up to make mini Klunkers or mid size Lowrider’s out of.

Turned out I had everything he needed and for what he was willing to rent bikes from someone for, I was able to make him 3 bikes he could keep as they didn’t need to be perfect. They needed to look used and as if they were purchased in the early or mid 50s and had seen some use. They could have been a hand me down or belonged to a parent.

For the last bike he wanted a yellow one. I know yellow to historically be an unpopular color compared to many others so I did my best to make this one Yellow, 50s, and kinda cool.

This is what I came up with. I was able to get my money back for this bike and I’m sure he got more than his moneys worth as well as a prop he can use in the future.
