Biggest problem I've found with the kickback versions (especially ones that were never serviced) is the old grease is dried up like tar. It doesn't allow the internal parts to move.

If adjustments don't work you might be able to get WD40 in there to soften things up but I'd still recommend a clean and grease.

@Greg58 A very important part of the manual 2 speed set up is the cable clamps. They secure the cable cover to the bike and this cover can have no movement at all they need to be tight to the frame. Sometimes that final clamp slips and renders the 2 speed worthless. I would make sure the clamps are secure. You can make adjustments by moving the final clamp. I prefer the manual over automatic but either is great to have when working correctly.

The cable clamp closest to the shifter is loose, I can easily slide it up and down. I will try tightening it.

The top clamp in the second pic is the loose one.

Is it just me, or are the front brakes unusual? The brake is clamped to the fork on both sides and the cable is split to engage both sides individually.

I tightened up the cable clamp and confirmed that the cable is moving at the 2 speed hub. I didn't try to ride because my lane is quite muddy today.
Another question on this green Corvette. Is this reflector on the back correct? I've never seen one like it, looks like it has been on the bike for some time.
