Being a December bike with the built in kickstand instead of a bolt on and with that style chainguard it is a 61 dated Typhoon for the 62 model year. It is a cool bike either way and I'm not here to bash it by any means and a 61 dated Typhoon frame was probably only made for a couple months at best. I would love to find a 24 inch wheeled frame like that to add to my collection. With that being said I would like to know where you got that chainguard decal?

The serial number date has nothing to do with a frame or bike build date. The drop out was stamped with a serial number on Dec. 5, 61 and then sometime later it was used to build a frame. It would not be a 61 dated Typhoon, it's a 1962 Typhoon with a Dec. 1961 stamped serial number and was undoubtedly built in 1962.

Thanks for clearing that up. When I was researching to see if it was actually a Tornado, I found something that made me think that it wasn't, but I can't remember exactly what that was.

Newer pickup.. early year '61 Tornado, non continuous... showing some age, just gettn some tires, pedals, maybe grips...

Some of those did have a tank too! I've had 3 and all were Red & had tanks. Nice score
