Schwinn Studded Balloon 1st year?

I'm getting confused. Has anybody be able to prove the existence of a 26" x 2.125" "Schwinn Studded Balloon" tire prior to 1981?

I just blew up the picture of the 1980 Schwinn CX7-6 in the Waterford scans and I believe that bike has the Uniroyal/Carlisle Nobby tire mounted, not the "Schwinn Studded Balloon".

Absolutely, that was my first post in this thread, #18. @koolbikes said he has some "Schwinn Studded Balloon" tires with the same date stamp too. Remember, we confirmed that neither Carlisle, nor Uniroyal were making tires in the US in 89, their factories had closed.

OK, THANK you! I found both posts. Gosh! I'm baffled. Well, do you feel confident that the "Schwinn Studded Balloon" did not appear on bikes until 1980? Or even sooner?

I'm satisfied with that conclusion, until somebody comes along with an earlier Schwinn Studded Balloon tire to prove otherwise. I doubt that's going to happen.

Well, you and Kool have done onehelluva job and I've learned a mountain of valuable information that I will be able to apply. Thank you! This has been a delightful educational experience. Deep down in my heart, I'm still looking for my old King Sting. Oh well, maybe one of these days.

Do you have the 1981, 1982, and 1983 Schwinn Bicycle Specifications?

I have never seen these year Schwinn Bicycle Specifications available to obtain, I would like to find a 1981 or 1982 for the 20" Schwinn Cruiser Information.

It's been fun researching this tire information, we can only hope someone finds a more updated Schwinn Tire Date Code chart.

I have one last request for information. Please go to your 1979 Specifications and post the part numbers for the Spitfire tire AND frame. Then go to the 1980 Specs and post the part numbers for the 1980 Deluxe Cruiser and the Coaster Cruiser tires and frames. I really appreciate it.

I don't know if this helps, but this 1982 catalog cut is the first evidence I've seen regarding the 20" Schwinn Cruiser.

Other than the 1981 Schwinn Specification Sheet I posted with the 24" and 20" Schwinn Cruiser, I have not found a 1981 or 1982 "Schwinn Bicycle Specifications" book that would have the 20" "Schwinn Cruiser" Parts List.
