No problem, no need to forgive you as it was not meant to be a criticism. AS gave you subtle answers a few times in order for you to explore and read through to discover yourself, but you didn't quite catch it....then continued to look elsewhere. Been there done that, just pleased you now know. There is a downside to this being an Emblem. Very difficult to find the replacement parts you need, including the cap-style headset race that you may only find in a parts wanted/needed thread. Perhaps you could find both in one ad. But before assuming the existing fork is oversized to accept this cap style race, you had better measure it first... Pete

I've usually got one eye on the CABE and one eye on work, so sometimes subtlety goes right past me. Just bludgeon me over the head --- TODD, IT'S A DAMN EMBLEM.

Yes it is...and best of all you found the match yourself in that camelback thread in your post #37. An exact match~good show....I do NOT know if your fork is Emblem made or not since the cap style race is not there to begin with as shown on your link you found to the Red camelback. Emblem made a few different fork styles, including the more simple forged crown style.....Be aware that does NOT mean that Emblem used ALL cap-style upper headset races that are oversized. This I am fairly certain, but I can say for sure that I don't know very much about the details regarding ALL emblem made forks.......yet.

And finished for now. A 28” wheel set will have to wait until I win the lottery. Shout out to @Livmojoe for the perfect Mesinger saddle, thank you John!

Considering its condition when I purchased it, I gave no thought to restoring this bike back to original, but rather I envisioned this in the hands of my resourceful maternal grandfather back in the Forties; a man who survived the chaos and hyper-inflation of post World War One Weimar Germany in the twenties and the Great Depression here in the states after emigrating to Portland, Oregon in 1930. I can see him finding this old frame in a scrap heap, and then adding whatever parts he might have come across in order to build himself a bike to ride with his children.

Yes, I agree Chris....So few of these left really, especially with the original crankset on it! Emblem also made that chain ring in a heavy duty, 1/4" width in a 24t version below. I would imagine that is one big gear to push. Would be nice to run a large cog on a new wheelset in the future. Good job!

It's not terribly difficult to pedal as is, but would like to make it a bit easier. Will definitely be looking at getting a larger sprocket for the rear, yes.

By the way, can someone tell me what size chain adjusters this bike might accept? They're obviously much smaller than a standard ballooner bike.

Here are Emblem-specific adjusters seen also on Angola Pierce frames/Pierce forged dropouts but not sure the thread pitch. Not all Emblem's used the same size or style adjuster though..
