Well, stage 1 didn’t disappoint, unless you’re Enric Mas of team Moviestar.
What’s that old saying?
You can’t win the Tour de France on day 1, but you can most certainly lose the Tour de France on day one.
Well, he sure proved that one to be true.
It’s going to be a long three weeks, for team Moviestar.
Better luck next year!
But!
Way to go, Neilson Powless!
Homeboy from Sacramento, California
Puts on the King of the Mountains (well, hills really,) jersey, right out of the gate.
Looking good in Polka Dots!
And then, there was the Yates brothers from Great Britain.
They said, it was the first time in history, that twin brothers were battling it out for the yellow jersey and a stage win in the Tour de France.
So, just when you think you’ve seen it all, something unusual happens.
And that is the magic of the Tour de France!

And this thing is just getting started.
Stay tuned!

Thanks for doing this thread Marty!!😎😎 Fireworks from the start. 🤩 With such incredible riders ushering in the new era it will be an epic battle! Having moved an employee of Jumbo-Visma a couple of times(most recently to his home in Denmark) I'm kinda hoping for a repeat & will be sporting one of the caps he gave me the next few weeks. Don't care really as it's just fun watching elite athletes display their craft. A few powerhouse teams will keep Le Tour interesting every day for the next 3 weeks!! 🍿🍿🍿

I used to go to Interbike every year, and the winning manufacturers would always be handing out posters like that, from the previous years victories.
I used to have them all lined up on the walls, and then I got married, and the posters came down.😢
One of my neighbors was also a cycling nut, so I gave them all to him.
I’m sure, he has since sold them on eBay.😏

We’ll be in Europe in July and August but none of our dates coincide with tour dates or locations. Rats. Plus I won’t be home to watch it on TV as I have in the past.

I am in the process of selling all the junk I have accumulated over the last 40 years. I never throw anything away. I almost just tossed the poster out, but decided to put it on ebay, it sold within hours for $50.00, which I thought was a crazy price. I guess 1983 was a long time ago.... most of the other "sold" tour posters were from way before 1983.

That happened to me one year.
The Tour started in Luxembourg that year, and we were in Paris.
I remember standing on top of the Arc d’ Triomphe, and looking down the Champs Elysees, thinking that in three weeks time, those guys would be charging up the boulevard for the win.
It turned out to be the year that Floyd Landis won it, so to be there when an American from Temecula, California won it, would’ve been fantastic!
The only consolation to my poor timing, was that all of the concession stands were selling tons of Tour merchandise.
