Barney Oldfield (1878-1946) checks his former racing bike, at home in Los Angeles, 1931.

Oldfield started racing bicycles in 1894, and was successful. Then, he began racing cars in 1902, winning the AAA national championship in 1905. He was the first to hit 60 mph on a circular track.

Oldfield was posthumously inducted into the Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1952.
