My first attempt at saddle covering. I have done leather work for many years, but not bicycle seats. I had some 5-6 ounce veg tanned cowhide, a new unwanted blanket, and a couple ugly saddles.

Excellent job...especially for the first time.
My first attempt at covering a bike seat did not end well...at all. I think it is still in a box where I tossed it..giving it a farewell of F#@k it.

This is what I started with yesterday. The front fender looks pretty good so had to do some pounding / masking / paint work to make this rear more presentable. Today I focused on what I was gonna do with this really messed up bottom portion! Almost didn’t take the fenders but now glad I did. The white painted tip will be painted orange to match head tube darts but today I wanted to mock-up how I was gonna conceal all the holes, metal tear etc.

Had to use a washer behind fender rivet ets cuz holes blown out. This “STOP” attachment mounted with two existing holes , one side has an oversized washer cuz hole was huge, the other side I cut and used a small piece of metal strapping to give support and backing to small tear on side of fender. Inside of fender isn’t pretty but this is no show bike obviously. I used fender rivets in other holes . As I said the tip will be orange when done and all rivets will be painted black.

I also want to find a larger rear reflector which I think will fill area up more and look better.

Here’s how whole fender looks now.

Decided to paint and use a prewar rack I have to conceal the fender even more.

Today I scuffed up the rack and set on bike above fender for another visual.

Continued working on the ‘39 B Model today. Spent a lot of additional time pounding out rear fender, filling a small rust hole with JB Weld and filing the tip of the rear fender, to clean it up a little. I sanded the tip of the rear down to bare metal where I painted it orange, since int was so messed up.

I had a lot of problems with the orange paint I bought for the fender tips, i ending up painting and removing the paint a couple times before getting it right.. I followed the exact line of the OG paint on the rear and after painting it realized it wasn’t perfectly centered, but I’m leaving it, part of the charm of these old bikes…
The white pins on fenders are outlined by very fine orange pins, Had to do a lot of work to keep them intact of much as possible.

When paint is dry I’ll wet/dry sand the orange to dull it up.

A labor of luv! Update. A scruffy project!
Working on the "Salty Lady", the 38 Ladies 4 Bar. To mate with the Men's 38, 5 Bar.
"Mr. and Mrs. Salty" The 38-ers!
Yesterday was finishing parts and wheel and tire (both sporting the same 26x2.250's now) day for the Lady 4 bar. Now, to finish the "Nasty Faux paint" and finish on the frame, front end and rear rack.
Then, get her back together.

The goal has never been a 100% match, but to make her look like they grew old together in the same old barn, with the same old farmer.

When found. The home painted blue beast.

Those are beautiful, well done! Two questions: what did you use to adhere the blanket to the pan, and how many layers of blanket did you use, just the one?
