We originally thought this was a no-badge frame but i got curious when i saw odd spots inside the headtube. Turns out, for some reason in this bikes lifetime someone brazed up the badge holes real good. The patina over it was clearly old so it was done a long time ago
So…im building this bike as a no-nose so yesterday i took my good prewar WF badge and got the holes set. It will be added after paint

Started with a bare ‘50 Schwinn straight bar frame today that I recently painted a coppertone color for a klunker build. Installed all the cups, cut the steerer tube on the fork and installed. Then I dug out a modern black shimano coaster wheel set , mounted some Maxxis Ikon mtn bike tires and installed them.

View attachment 2213926Last I mocked up a vintage slingshot BMX stem and some vintage moto bars.View attachment 2213934The bars and stem are gonna come back off for repaint since I like how they look and will be using them.
Did you use a spray can and if so what? It really looks nice. I like that coppertone paint. What did you use as a base?

I used spray can, VHT Engine paint.

Thanks for compliment. I didn’t use a base coat other than the gray automotive primer I had on the frame. It may have looked better if I’d used silver, but looking at how it turned out I really don’t see how? I figured it was engine paint so wouldn’t be applied with basecoat anyway. I took almost whole can to paint just the frame. I thought I was done numerous times to find a spot where the paint was still thin. Key to applying this color is a lot of thin coats. A couple of guys on ratrodbikes forum had documented using this color in the past and I thought it looked great.

The main difference is that the silver base is reflective and has flakes that show like grain, it makes the finished product brighter with more to show through that translucent top coat.

That's true with a candy but no so with most metallics. Just use a light colored primer so it will cover with less paint.
