Look Ma, No Hands!
Picked up a few parts. I am going 1x on this bike and got a Suntour Cyclone GT and thumb shifter (NOS), and since I will be riding in street clothes on this bike a lot, a shorter chain guard than is on the bike currently, which likely will NOT work with the derailleur. Hoping to go get the bike maybe this upcoming weekend.

Also looking at some Araya 7x rims to use to build up some more lively wheels, setting the steelies aside.

The headbadges showed up today and as someone told me, the Speedway badge has the largest whole spacing, and is the one I wanted to use anyway. The others can go into some old frame and be in the bathroom as a decoration or something. LOL! I don't know. ;)

Nice collection of build parts! 👍👍 I like your 1x idea. Guessing 1x5 or 6 with that cyclone. Hopefully chain drop not issue, I had 1x5 on klunker frame and chain kept dropping. Luckily I had junky front derailleur that I gutted used to prevent further drops.

Yeah, I may use that idea. i can get one from Boise Bike Project for next to nothing if needed.

Will probably go get the bike in a couple days or perhaps next week. Working on my timing. Meanwhile, the parts are coming in. Brooks saddle got here and I am conditioning it. I think it’s going to look great.

I used a little household vinegar on a shop rag and then corner of a scrubber sponge to clean off the brass ovals on the back, and start to clean the rivets a little. I am not going to scrub too hard on those rivets, but will hit them a little at a time and see if they shine up just a bit. Some patina will be fine.

Well, you lucked out! Your serial number was used in three years, 1952 and 1953 and then again in 1957. So we'll start with finding out what rims those are to eliminate a 1957 model. S-2's for 52-53 and S-7's for a 57. I'll guess it's 1953 due to the kickstand and rolled stem. Great frame for a Klunker build.

interesting! Thanks for that great information. Where can I learn more about the rolled stems and different parts? The seller said the rims are S2's. After first cup of coffee, I will go see if I see any markings.

I will be setting the S2's aside and using 1.5 inch Araya's but am keeping all stock gear I take off to put back on in case I want to go back to a more original build.

EDIT: @GTs58 It appears these are S2's as the tires are 2.125 and it seems that tire size seems to be the way to tell if they are S7's as they use a specific 1.75 or something. Or so it seems when I look it up.

going to use the Wald bar pictured here on my old Firsher Paragon I turned into a bastard 700c touring bike for when we were taking the kids on some bike tours in the San Juans, Idaho hot pools, etc. That bike has a Jones loop on now and the Wald which seems to be similar to the ones some of them used in Fairfax back in the day is available, and I like the hand position better.

Swapped out handlebars today (I like the Wald WAY better) and soft fit some grips, not period correct, but will feel good and look good, and placed the saddle on to see what it will look like. Will need to get an adapter or different clamp for it. Or get a different seat post. And put on a shorter, 40's chain guard so I can cover the chain and chainring, but hopefully still have a rear derailleur.
