I find the black ones more comfortable and durable. Plus if you find one off an Exercycle, they are usually mint!

1980 was the only year Schwinn used the Persons Saddle on the Cruisers, before and after they used the Mesinger Saddle.
The Persons Saddle with tan cover was used on the Deluxe Cruiser models and the black cover was used on the Cruiser models.
Also, if you note that the 1980 Schwinn Deluxe Cruiser description shows having gumwall balloon tires that go with the tan saddle.

It's not PeArsons, it's Persons.

There were multiple covers and grains offered by them during this era.

I believe the inspection decals would have still been the black round type. Unfortunately , I don't have any complete original Deluxe model Cruisers example bikes to provide pictures of their details. The shop decal and inspector number on this seat were too cool to pass on.

Here are a couple on eBay now.

I think I prefer the grain on the black one as it was a little bit tougher than the smooth thin egg shell type covers. Here's a link to the black one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2670151493...d=link&campid=5335809022&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

Yes, these later Persons seat pans were not as durable as the original ballooner seats.
