The late 80's seats with the white rectangle inspection sticker had ribs added into the pan too if you really want to get into details. I have yet to see any documents on when either of these changes happened though.

They also had two bend over tabs to secure the pans together at the rear of the seat.

1980 Schwinn Deluxe Cruiser Seat ... these have no ribs on pan and have a single tab on rear of pan. The later seats had rib reinforcements to pan and dual tabs on rear of pan.

Early seat ... no reinforcement ribs on frame

Thanks for adding the "bent rail seat" photo. The Persons Majestic (PERMACO) seats were "marginal at best". The seat frame rails were thin and soft and easily bent to the side when the bike fell over. The stiffening ribs were a Band-Aid fix by the manufacturer. Schwinn warrantied a lot of those seats back in the day.

Schwinn went with the Permaco seat to give it that "Classic" look. It was not comfortable at all, the seat cover material was thin and when the bike fell over, it would bend the pan edge inward and damage the material easily. The Mesinger seat was durable and much more comfortable.

Being all the detailed information of a 1980 Schwinn Deluxe Cruiser ... here is the Schwinn specifications sheet ...
7098 Saddle /Tan ... 3072A / Gumwall Tires ... Grips color matched? I've only ever seen the Black cushion grips used.

So what’s up with these seats? I see some have a nice concave to them, and some are really flat and puffy looking. Always thought they were different but they have the same frames. I have a girls cruiser with one that has a nice concave.
