The Cabe sells them in thier store. Under the Discretion what does it mean by original ? From Schwinn or aftermarket?

I should mention that I am by no means an expert on Schwinn history. I just happen to have a ‘41 DX Special Equipped from the factory and am sharing what little I have learned about the topic. Learning the history though as you are yourself is half of the fun. These other guys have a wealth of knowledge and are happy to share it.

I myself am interested in knowing. We'll the person did say they came factory welded on the frames my question is. Is this an aftermarket part ? If so it can't be made to exact specs of an original if Schwinn didn't offer it for the dealers! I'm not an expert either but I have also been told 1941 came with it from the factory. Looks like a tube that size can easily be welded on the Frame and add the rubber Bumpers. 🤔 Or by 1941 did the Schwinn company realize they had an issue and offered that part to add to the 39 40 DX ?

This is my ‘41 when I had it torn down. You can see the eyelet for the bumper. Whether or not the snap on bumper was provided to the dealer by the factory is a question that I would ask of @GTs58 or maybe @Schwinn Sales West would chime in. Though im pretty sure that Gts58 already answered this question. As for trying to add the eyelet yourself by welding it on, this is not something that I would consider myself. In my opinion this would only devalue the bike.

I agree with you on devalue the frame but nowadays there are people out there that do modify just to get more money from it.

It would then be considered a custom build. Not factory, and no matter what extent you go to this would never be considered a DX Special Equipped from the factory which is what I believe you are aiming for, and for resale value. It would be in my opinion, a tribute bike at best. Hey, it is what it is. It’s a cool piece of American bicycle history just as it sits. Anything more than that and the waters get kind of murky.

I would never add one! You don't even know me why would you say I'm aiming for that ? I take that as an insult! I actually think the bike I have looks better without the tank.

I certainly didn’t mean anything as an insult. I believed this was your intention by your line of questioning. If not then great. I’m simply giving my opinion. Not trying to make an enemy or ruffle any feathers. Enjoy your bike brother, and I wish you the best.

I'm interested in the real answer if infact Schwinn offered this add on or not ! Or did someone just make it to solve the problem Because it does hit the Tank and will ruin a nice Tank if you do run one with a springer ! It's bad enough these bikes are heavy and if you don't position it right while the kick stand is down they do sometimes fall and will get a good size dent on the tank.
