Is the Lincoln head badge on the black tourist installed with rivets? It might be from the same family here.
Riveted.

Did you ever clean the paint off the BB to find the original serial number?
Unfortunately no. The frame is long gone. Honestly can’t remember what I did with it. I do know I sold the stem and the crank. I still have the headbadge.

Went back to look at photos I took when stripping this bike down, It is stamped once with the 137, no other serial number. And I can see that maybe this bike was originally black. It shows up around the stamped numbers. I did talk to the owner I bought the bike from and he said it was bought new. He says he has the receipt somewhere. Since he is 86 I didn't ask him too much as his wife was just put in a nursing home. I just find this whole thing interesting.

Thanks for posting a picture of your bottom bracket shell. This is all very interesting, and when Leon Dixon was posting about Schwinn’s storage building clean out it started to make sense. These bikes were probably built up and sold by Chicago cycle supply company.

Schwinn started machine stamping the serial numbers on the BB shells in 1937, and they were stamped before being used to build a frame. Either yours was never stamped or it was ground off before it was painted. If it was never stamped, I'm thinking it may have been built during the change over from the hand stamped to the machine stamped shells. Did all the tubing joints at the shell look normal?
