I got on their butt and asked for it in a written statement. So I got a call and they changed their minds and accepted bikes and parts as personal and will be insured. But what I can’t understand is why the trailer is not...it’s personal property but they said it’s in the fine print... hope this helps those who have stuff stored.. please take pics of it all no matter how small... that’s what saved my a— on it but what I get out of it will be determined soon...probably won’t be much in consideration of what they did to me on the trailer.

That is often how insurance legal defense works. The initial impulse is to deny everything. If they get pressure back, then it becomes a balancing act of how much will it cost to defend their position and how much would it cost just to pay you something (often not the full value) and make it go away.

Holy crap Mark!! That's insane. Major bummer. They should be tarred and feathered before the police put them in jail. What's the world coming to? I hope they are caught. All Cabers on the look out!

Some more advice for those of you with trailers. I had a trailer stolen from my driveway while I was at work a few years ago. My neighbor's driveway surveillance camera filmed the act. The hitch had a massive lock covering the receiver but they wrapped my safety chains around the hitch on their truck and ran a lock through them to haul it away. Lock your safety chains. A wheel lock or chains through the wheels is a good tip as stated above. Here's another idea given to me by a friend who is a retired highway patrolman. Paint your license number in large block letters on the roof of the trailer. The thieves never think to look up there, and there is a chance it can be seen from the air by a state patrol aircraft when they are doing overhead traffic control on the interstate freeway.

Was your tongue lock one of these?
