best part about this one was the find...
LAST day in the midwest after a Portland Indy run...
Sitting in FedEx in Chicago printing labels shipping boxes home....
killing time while labels were comin....
My flight home is in about 5 hours...
Scan local Craigslist... 41 Henderson rough, but alot there....
in Indiana... 700.00!!
map it? about an hour each way..but Chitown traffic!!!
Message the guy..nothing
1/2 hour later...dude calls...has the bike....
I'm on my way... Snagged it!
quick dismantle...another bike box found... shipped home...

restored to how she looked when new and to my knowledge
set a benchmark price for a 41' Super Deluxe at the time.

What a transformation Bob!!

Gosh, half my worst weren't even able to be put back together into a whole bike to ride again without cutting it apart from itself.

I'd guess of the ones I have rebuilt to purpose, it would be the X53 I had a decade back.
Pulled from half bury in the dirt and out of a bush from sitting in a back yard for a Long time,. Somehow enough managed to remain to make a rider again of what I had available at the time. Still have the scar on my thumb swapping out wheels.

As it happens, I saw this come up for sale Tonight of all nights from the guy I sold it to back then. Looks exactly as I left it, apart from the correct crank put back in and the right bars put on.

The worst condition bikes I ever had, were freebies that were not going to make it out of my place in one piece…and there’s a few that come to mind…I’ll try to find pics.

This was one of the worst. 1938 Schwinn built Flying Star, wrong fenders, wrong guard, the seat pan is disintegrating, so are the wheels…

I still have it, but the carrier went on my Hollywood.

I was down at a collectors place, picking up some parts, and as I was leaving, he asked me if I was interested in a yard art bike?
So, I asked, what’s a yard art bike?
He said come on back and I’ll show you.
So, we went into the backyard where he proceeded to rip this old 24” Monark Rocket from the clutches of an overgrown vine.
He handed to me and said here, take it.
How could I say no?
So, I took it home and placed it in the cactus garden, where it’s been sitting ever since.
