The numbers these guys are producing is mind blowing!
So, that last climb up the Plateau de Beille in stage 15, was the fastest time ever recorded for that section.
The second fastest time was Jonas Vinegegaard, who finished second, a little over a minute behind.
Beating the old record set by Marco Pantani 30 years ago.
Keep in mind, that was after climbing four other mountain peaks of near equivalent height and difficulty!
Stage 14 the day before, set the all time record for the fastest finishing time of equivalent distance and accumulated altitude, that figured out to be something like 14,000 feet!
Two back to back mountain stages of incredible difficulty, and these guys set speed records on both of them.
That’s insane!
Henri Desgrange is most definitely smiling down from the heavens.
Or maybe he’s got a sh’+ eating grin, from down below, depending on what the riders back in the day were feeling about him?
Either way, he would’ve loved these last two days of the Tour de France.

Is this thing sexy or what?
An instant classic if you ask me.
And, a relative bargain for the price of $13,500 considering that almost all of the other bikes made in this class of professional racing bikes cost upwards of $20,000

So, Marty, I'm going to save you $15K today.

Let's say after the freight, set up fees, and our governors taxes your looking at roughly $15K to ride this bike out the door. You can even put it on Mastercard and make the time payments to lessen the upfront sting. I agree, it's "a hell of a lota bike" to "hang on the wall" for $13,500.

But no matter how efficient the bike is, it's the horsepower that is being driven into the pedals that pushes it up the mountains at record times. If you buy the bike, you're still GOING TO GET DROPPED ON THAT FIRST CLIMB.

Buy the four color poster and put it on your wall to enjoy.

If you need some wind in your hair, ride that Whizzer.

Just some old guy advice.

Tomorrow will be telling. Jonas has tried minimizing time loss so far, relatively close to plan. The strategy has been to take it back in the last few days, on the longest toughest climbs, which suit him better and Tadej, less. We'll see ! I'm still tripin' on how 165mm cranks can "prevail" when you'd think torque had a significant role in climbing. Maybe because all these bikes are 14lbs? Tadej's higher cadence seems to work for him, so far...

I agree with your views on torque versus leverage. But just look at what has happened in pickup trucks for towing. It used to be you always choose a 454 or a 460 cubic inch "long stroke" engine for good towing torque. But now you commonly see 2.7 to 3.5 liter twin turbo engines towing 10,000 pound trailers. You just have to spin the crank to a higher cadence. but it seems like there has to be a sweet spot and a point of diminishing returns. After a hundred years of Tours, you would think nothing could be actually new, but things do change and evolve.

It's going to be interesting to see what Jonas/Visma can do to take back time with climbing days running thin. Tadej is looking really strong & could have enough lead to keep it. I have a feeling he wants to put more time on the others/snap their legs off, however.🤣 Visma will need to be very aggressive for any hope of taking back time at this point. Should be fun to watch the response!💥💥

The last day will be a TT to Nice not Paris, olympics being the excuse. So it'll be a real competitive day, unlike the usual slow ride and meaningless sprint to Paris. Kinda like the time Lemond beat Fignon by 7 seconds. Other than Remco, not sure anyone else can beat Tadej in a TT.
