I found this cast iron? Frog Garden Ornament at last Sunday’s Downtown Torrance Street Faire. It’s pretty heavy despite missing a front leg.

Resurrecting a Mead Ranger frame this weekend, total Frankenstein. After a tune up and spin, thinking might keep it. Super smooth and the light wheelset is a treat. New paint maybe this spring. I’d never seen white handlebars before, these were brown with rust. Some WD40 revealed the white, no plating. KOOL…

I got a bit of loot this week.

A communication morse code tin litho space toy set ( Modern Toys Japan: lights up and buzzes when button pushed) & a tin made in Japan Lincoln police car with bump and go action and flashing light and gunshot sounds, both work perfect from Portugal.

A cool ( empty) Futurista Monogram Quality model hobby kit box. An Ebay seller was more than generous when I purchased some Schrader valve caps for my fleet of vinatge rides!

Also a tin Jaguar E Type tin car ( battery -op/dog don't hunt) and just lined up some existing toy cars for a photo shoot I post on a couple FB vintage toy sites. ATC Japan friction tin MGA and a mess of German tinplate 1954 Gama cadillacs.

One of my "go to" characters for humour is from the 70's underground comic fame, "Zippy the Pinhead" ( not to be confused with SNL Coneheads) entered the collection from a Flea market score ( actually belonged to a "late ex Brother in Law) from 1984. A welcome observer in my Man Cave.

"The character of Zippy the Pinhead initially appeared in underground publications during the 1970s.[3] The Zippy comic is distributed by King Features Syndicate to more than 100 newspapers, and Griffith self-syndicates strips to college newspapers and alternative weeklies. The strip is unique among syndicated multi-panel dailies for its characteristics of literary nonsense, including a near-absence of either straightforward gags or continuous narrative, and for its unusually intricate artwork, which is reminiscent of the style of Griffith's 1970s underground comix."

Sadly, yes. The exchange rate and eBay taxing a 50 year old stem in another country is pretty gd ridiculous… oh well
At least 75% of what I buy for my hobbies comes from outside of Canada and if on Ebay, I get taxed and duties levied in U.S. dollars that doubles in Canadian dollars because we have a .44 dollar compared to the Euro and the U.S. dollar. If I buy a vintage bicycle tire ( based on age it shouldn't even be taxed and be duty free) for $100.00 U.S., the least it will cost me at my door is $200.00 Canadian if it's an Ebay deal, PLUS shipping. I should collect pocket lint.

Nashman, I enjoy your STUFF, a lot.

I grew up in Arizona during the early 1950's in my family's small hobby shop and toy store combination. We sold "new" the STUFF you are now collecting. The Hobby and Toy store is how we got into the bicycle business and became Schwinn dealers in 1958. Ironically, my dad bought a brand new 1951 Nash car and loaded his family up in Chicago and hit Route 66 west for Arizona, and a new life.

Hopefully someday the duty and tariff thing will pass, and we can get back to enjoying our hobbies without regards to surcharges.

Hey John, Great memory. My GF and I watch old sitcom DVD 's on occasion ( puts some stability in the modern craziness?) and currently watching My Three Sons ( and Bob Newhart) and in the last one, "Chip" saved a guys dog and his reward was a $250.00 shopping spree in a Sports/Hobby shop. WOW, what a load he scored. Of course "instant friends" and early acceptance to a clubhouse/gang only to find out ( Ernie was shunned) they only wanted the toys.

Hopefully the neighbour "tariff" game will sort itself out. It's all a tax grab on the little guy when it comes to nickel/dime hobby stuff. Oh well, I don't get too emotional about it, it is beyond my control. My hobbies and friends won't change. I love your story. Too bad we can't flash back!!

Bob
