It wouldn’t be the Tour de France, without a few fields of Sunflowers.

Every year, the Tour organizers try to put in something special, and this year, Stage 9 looks to be a real treat.
Here’s a preview.

Two American riders, Matteo Jorgenson, and Neilson Powless led the breakaway, but it was another North American rider from Canada, that would win the day.
Micheal Woods, came from two minutes back and over took the lead with only 400 meters to go to the finish.
Not quite the story book ending I was hoping for, but it was still an exciting day for the North Americans at the Tour de France.

Tomorrow is a well deserved rest day.
So, after one week of racing, here’s the jersey standings.

With the great rivalry today, between Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia, and Jonas Vingegaard from Denmark.
It’s interesting to note, that a similar rivalry was playing out 100 years ago, between Henri Pelissier of France, and Ottavio Bottecchia of Italy.

Though a lot has changed between now and then, one thing still remains the same.
The Tour de France is a classic!

They will be wending their way past my place (Annecy le Vieux) next Sunday...

Since it's all less than an hour from me, this is an area I regularly walk.

Best Regards,

Adrian

What a beautiful area - Lake Annecy!

I've been over to the Tour De France and visited Lake Annecy. The hotel I stayed in was called De Tour de Pacoret ( pronounced "Pack - or - Eh" ).
It was a 14th Century watch tower in its time.

I did the Alpe DHuez stage and also the Courchevel mountain stage. I have some amazing photos of Armstrong, Pantani, Ullrich and many others.

In Lake Annecy there is a building right in the middle of town surrounded by water. This used to be the old prison. I have lots of photos from there.

Wonderful place and you're lucky to live in such a beautiful area Adrian! I've been to France many many many times. Beautiful region.
