Hi @corbettclassics

I never expected such an enthusiastic response (-:

As you mention, the old prison is on an island, but doubtless you crossed onto it, where you would have seen the Café des Arts in the courtyard behind. I'm there most Thursday evenings (-:

A la prochaine fois, Adrian
Yes, I have actually been there and will have to dig out some photos of this area. Unfortunately they are buried in boxes that I can't get to right now.
Cheers

Some of the hardest days turn out to be the day after a rest day, and Stage 10 was no different.
A little over 100 miles on a continuously undulating course, then throw in some stiff headwinds, and the 97 degree temperature, and you’ve got yourself everything it takes to make a bike ride hard.
So, this race was pretty scattered right from the get go.
Survival of the fittest was the order of the day.

It always amazes me, when you assemble the worlds best bicycle racers, and it all comes down to a bunch sprint for the line, that one guy can consistently prove himself to be the absolute best of the bunch.
Well, for this year, that guy is;

It was clean wheels by a bike length at the finish line.

And now, we’ve officially crossed over the halfway point.
All roads lead to Paris.
Here’s a look a some of the fanatics, that make the annual pilgrimage to participate in the Tour de France.

Looking at some of the pictures of the spectators makes me think that some serious refreshments are consumed waiting for the peloton to arrive. I wonder how many spectators actually miss the race because they are "under the weather" by the time it arrives?

Thanks for the pictures, Marty.

John

Oh, yeah!
Serious refreshments are what it’s all about, for some of these guys.
One of my favorite roadside attractions, is the rolling caravan of vintage Volkswagens that Jo Helsen brings with him from Belgium.
There’s no roughing it at the Tour de France with these guys.

I’m sure, Cafe Welkom, is more than Welcome, for the folks that thought they’d be doing without, on the side of the road, while waiting for the riders to come.
