I wax the spokes with Bowling Alley wax but I hate putting anything on the brass because I just don't like to crud things up. They generally last a couple of years before they tarnish a little so I just look the other way.

Do you group the spokes into their four groups and put them back the same? I've only done this to one old original wheel with the old spokes, and I just mixed them all up... wondered if I should have been more careful.
