Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Wasted a bunch of time on this hub lacing it up for the Monark. Great looking backing plate with the adjustable stationary pivot. I think it came from eBay, but I didn't notice the rusty rub mark where the backing plate wore off the chrome. That severe of a rub only means one thing, the brake flange was bent. I did fix that before lacing and I should have taken pictures of the clamp I fixed it in the vise with...I gave it a few taps with the plastic dead blow and it came back to pretty concentric.
I could get used to installing spokes like this into the slotted hub flanges though. It was a real pain to wedge into this fork, even with the handy spreader tool.
Here you can see the rusty rub mark better.
I adjusted the cable like 3 times, thinking that maybe the cable was slipping in the attach fitting. Adjusted the shoes as tight as I could at the pivot too. Even with the shoes rubbing pretty badly, there just isn't enough pull from the lever to make this an effective brake. Hopefully I've got a set of shoes that will fit this style backing plate and remedy the problem, otherwise, this was a big waste.
