EXAMPLE #23
This 1950s Schwinn blue lady Corvette came out of Sacramento CA. I picked it up after a swap meet in the area. It was in storage for over 60 years and was a one owner bicycle. Anyhow a new owner young lady (11 year old) who loves to ride bicycles is going to get it in a few days. Rear fender was in need for fender rolling to get minor dents out. Stainless steel fender so i was careful at first using painters tape to reduce creating scuffs on the surface. It required drilling out the braces to get dents out by those hard to get areas with braces on. Did the work and eventually removed the tape to fine tune those areas that would not get flat with tape on. When the fender was dialed in..the rivet tool and correct spec rivet was used. Got it together and aired up the tires and even swapped out the bars for a wider set with a nice profile ..ACE stamped not sure who makes them (29.5" wide!!) but man this thing rode quiet and super nice and the bars gave it a cruiser feel. I'm hoping the new owner will love it like I did. Fender turned out good too!!

Beautiful work! Those are some great tools. Beautiful bike too! Thanks for posting!

Example #25
Assessing the damage on this one. Pretty sure it'll be pitted but try finding these 1938/39 boys fenders....

Example #25 continued ....
Flared end had a fold over damage...so folded over piece was brought back with careful use of flat head screw driver and pliers. Exposure to elements took its toll as it was very brittle and there are more pits on the surface than all the oranges in orange county I'm convinced....Then sanded the surface and washed it off and then more sanding. Will probably need more sanding once the rolling begins.

Used a fine sanding sponge ...it was something I had near by.
This is fine for now to get it back into form.

Since I am doing the same kind of work here, I love looking at your photos of crumpled fenders coming back to life. I would love to know your choice of rivets, probably being 5/16 round head (?) , but what do you prefer for length and diameter? The rivet squeezers, rivet sets, and rivet types seem to remain a mystery and a foggy area here on the cabe. Thanks for your great photos and explanations and especially for saving these old fenders!

I only use one kind. An old bike guy sent me a whole box circa 2009. So I had to invest in a squeezer. Somewhere I have the specs. I can see if I can find it soon and post pics of both the rivets and tool.
