Hi @jimmyjambo43

Thanks for the photo.

36 10 is 36 spokes, 10 guage, as you say, about as heavy duty as they get, and correct for a G519.

The date code is just out of sight to the left of this, can you tell me what it is? Thanks.

The front wheel is not original, but it is the easier one to replace, since the front hubs (are expensive) but not dated, and the rims still available new old stock.

Or there is this complete one (not mine, but a good known seller).

May be missing the axel, but those are easily obtainable.

The rest is quite complete, but missing the saddle, rear reflector, one brace on the rear fender, perhaps modified pedals. Tires.

I will have more historical information, probably tomorrow.

Best Regards,

Adrian

Hi Jimmy @jimmyjambo43

I said I'd get back to you about the history of this bike. Since it is quite unusual, I have started a new thread for it here so that the information is not lost.

The bicycle is MG46352 / N6 which dates it to June 1945 at the earliest, and makes it the newest survivor known.

Best Regards,

Adrian

Hi Jimmy,
There is another mark on the hub that Adrian is asking to see. 36 is for 36 spokes, and 10 is for 10 gauge, there should also be a letter and a number on the shell which is the date code.
If you bring it by to compare, I think that I have the brace that you need for the rear fender. I have a spare Messinger sliding rail seat and I have front barrell hubs, so we could build a replacement front wheel.
I think I have a Delta Winner light with the embossing, not correct, but close, a good temporary substitute.
I also have wood pedal blocks.
I used Goof Off Industrial Strength Graffiti remover to remove the paint on my bike. It worked very well. You need to be very careful to not remove any of the green paint. I would start by washing it with Dawn. I think a lot of the red will come off with the first wash.

Hi Jimmy @jimmyjambo43

That's excellent. Thank you for checking.

O2. Letter O is 1945, and 2 is second quarter, so made April to June 1945.

That is what you'd expect to see for a June 1945 frame and helps confirm the date.

Also, it means that it likely to be the original rear wheel, and that the hub was ordered in for this late contract. It is not an earlier hub they had lying on the shelf which they used up.

An excellent bike, I like it a lot (-:

Best Regards,

Adrian

PS, I will copy this across to the dedicated thread to keep the information in one place. Edit, you already got there, thanks.
