Only made it 20 miles today. The wind here was gusting over 30mph. And when it would hit, it would just slam the bike sideways. Luckily most of my trip wasn’t directly into the breeze, cause when it was…yowsa. And when it was directly at my back, I was speeding up while not pedaling.
But I had a nut fall off of the brake lever assembly, and had to turn around, and hold the bolt in pace, while I rode back to town, and went to ACE hardware, which is fitting, since the bike is badged for ACE. Does that count as OEM?
I went on 2 rides today, first ride I rode with this lady , a ‘41 Colson Clipper.
Foggy, early morning ride before church. Bought this bike recently, my wife said “ don’t buy another bike on my account” , I said “ I’m not, buying it cuz I want it”.
This is one step through framed bike I’ll have no hesitation about riding myself….
Wheels were shot so put a red band 2spd re-laced drop center on rear and newer drop center on front for now. Rode 18 miles on it. After church dusted off our modern gravel tandem and went on first tandem ride of the year with my wife…
My wife has been battling a shoulder injury all winter so starting out slow, did 12 miles on the tandem today.
I felt like I was flying riding this today after riding vintage ballooners all winter.
My first road bike was a 531 Raleigh too, back in 1982.
Very sweet frames to ride.
I can't do too many miles on this type of bike either, but it's fun while it lasts!
Keep on riding!
I missed one of my favorite rides on Saturday that I was looking forward to but had to be at a swap my friend @palepainter puts on a few times a year. Gotta focus on getting bikes into new homes this year & was too tired to try to meet up with the Grossenßart Brewing Mustache Ride after the swap.
Being a BMX centric show/swap, didn't sell anything but folks seemed very impressed! Had more fun visiting friends, old & new. Glad my other friend sharing my giant canopy sold some stuff & made some good contacts for what he's doing. He builds wicked pump track bikes from older MTB's & the one that got me addicted to pump tracks. Forever grateful!
Dying for a ride to help process revolutionary information found during research, recent events & how it all ties together as well as a few other "How does that even happen?" events to add to a lifetime collection of bizarre truth is stranger than fiction memories. I spent the afternoon on my Elgin to help settle my brain down & find clarity. Having strong Scottish genes I wanted to check out Tartan Days at the Fairgrounds with hope of a vendor selling kilts & connect with my roots.
Sadly, no kilts but found my Clan!
Found the armaments too!
With perfect Colorado weather in the upper 70's I had a great afternoon pedaling around town. Too bad my friends were busy & couldn't join. It was just what I needed. Along with a coffee waffle cone from Scrumptious on the way home.
My wife decided to prank my boss by putting a pair of lacy panties (brand new) under the top box of gloves.
I should have grabbed the Suburban with the basket , but the "Dutch Flyer" the closest one I grabbed.
No bungies or netting for the box on a flat rack. Thank goodness for paracord and the "Trucker hitch", X 2.
Off we go....
Delivery made safe and sound.
The boss never looked in th Amazon box, just put it on the shelf. One day he'll get the surprise, and I willl have forgotten about it.
Got home and went to take a country leak behind my shed. Found this slithering about.
With a full work schedule I really didn't need a front wheel hub needing to be replaced on my truck. The egg crate carrier on my Elgin took care of transporting a replacement assembly, no problem!
Had the truck back on the road in a couple of hours.
