Love it. I've got a 57 Vette I'm working on. I went resto-mod for now, but planning on....not a complete restoration, but everything correct, but keeping it in rider condition.
Going to have to change the front chain ring or possibly a different type of master link. Having a binding issue and have busted 3 master links off. I'll be playing with that today after work.
What sprocket and chain are you using? Derailleurs don't get along with master links...and 1/8" sprockets don't get along well with Multi-speeds above 3sp rear clusters. I'd delete the master link and be sure to use a 3/32" front(5sp with knurling) sprocket.

That's the information I was looking for. I knew I was going to have to bypass the master link. The rear wheel, derailer and shifter are from a Avalon 7 speed cruiser I had laying around I originally used it's front crank and sprocket, but it was too small and all torque and no speed. I have a 1976 Huffy 10 speed I'm going to use it's rear wheel and instead of a 7 speed, it will be a 5 speed.

You still need to make sure you have a 3/32" front sprocket. Also note that it's best practice to swap in a Complete known working system, your drivetrain system in this instance, instead of swapping sections of a system sporadically. Otherwise you may be unknowingly swapping out a part that was working just fine, but wasn't compatible with parts from one other system. This method of troubleshooting one item at a time applies to a little bit of everything. I'm not trying to be preachy, just trying to help straighten out the gears...

Appreciate it. I'll have to go digging in the parts shed and the doner bike shed and see what I have. I was heading out to check the sheds for a front sprocket to replace a skip tooth on a 54 Hawthorne, so 2 birds 1 stone. Thanks again for the advice.
Out for the longest ride yet on my '57 BFG Truck-ster. Got a Wald basket and chrome tall stem coming, as well as BFG and C.T. decals. Still haven't decided what color it'll be.
